Welcome to Tuja, Lavia!
Tūja is a seaside village in the Gulf of Riga, halfway between Saulkrasti and Salacgrīva. Tūja beach is popular as the most direct access to the sea on the road Valmiera – Limbaži – Tūja, both Vidzeme residents and foreigners come to us!
What can be done in Tuja:
Overnight in tents or apartments; sunbathing on the beaches close to amenities or away from the eyes; swim in the sea or in quarries; fishing in the sea, quarries, river; rent bicycles, boats, SUP boards; buy local buns; walk on two piers; enjoy sunsets with wine in the dunes; snorkel when clear water.
Transport:
Tūja is located about 75 km from Riga, you have to drive along the Tallinn highway past Saulkrasti, turn left towards Limbaži road. There are several buses to Tūja, you have to spend about 1.5 hours on the way and the ticket costs less than four euros. You can also get to Tūja by climbing out on the Tallinn highway stop “Tūja turn”, then you have to measure 3 km down to Tūja by foot or stop.
Accommodation:
There are several campsites in Tūja, the best known will be Jūrasdzenņi and Krimalnieki (both have tent sites, showers, coffee, children’s attractions, camper parking, and apartments / cottages). Apartments must be booked in advance, tents can be ridden and booked on site – because there is a lot of space and sunsets are beautiful :)
Shops, cafes:
There are two shops in Tūja – Elvi (Liedags) at the stop, and Lats (Vērdiņš) a hundred meters away, both shops have everything available for summer survival: ice cream, beer, buns, and beautiful sellers :)
In summer, there are cafes, hot meals, ice cream and cold draft beers in both the center and both campsites. It is worth mentioning the nearest eateries within a radius of 10 km: Birzgaili; Meke; Nocturnal; Silverware; and the visually stunning Liepupe Manor.
Culture, events, objects:
In the center of Tūja there is a library, a large children’s playground, the most active citizens’ association “Tūjaskrasts” operates, and every summer there are concerts and green balls (in Liepupe castle mound).
There are two bulletin boards in Tūja, as well as an online advertisement section.
Geocaching is also no stranger to Thuja, closes the application inside ;)
At the other sightseeing points you can plan a Zaķu stone (a naughty pebble in the forest on the way to Zaķuciems); small red cliffs (400m to the left of the pier); the old pier (camping Jūrasdzenņi) and the new pier (camping Krimalnieki); the slum of an industrial brick factory (guarded by a large raging dog, inside without matching the villain); Bunny zigzags (good for hiking when hoisting); you can fish in the river, quarries, and at sea (boats are looking for in Krimalnieki); Kurmjrags lighthouse (5km to the north, but careful with parking, imposes penalties).
Care should be taken to:
Be careful with parking and the speed limit – both the Traffic Police and the municipal penalties are on duty in the non-parking area (which is quite spacious and you forgot that you are in it). Pay attention to children and each other when swimming, especially on hot days or under the influence of degrees. Anyway, Tūja is a friendly village with the prospect of becoming a North Vidzeme paradise by the sea :)
